The Importance of Preventive Care
Regular wellness exams are important to help your pet maintain good long-term physical health.
Routine exams, combined with vaccinations, parasite prevention, and proper nutrition, offer your pet the best chance and good lifelong health.
When you bring in your cat or dog for routine wellness exams, we can prevent illnesses before they begin, or catch them early when they are the most treatable.
During your pet checkup in Grass Valley, we will also offer nutritional counseling to ensure your pet's diet is optimized for their unique needs.
What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical
Your Grass Valley vet will give your dog or cat a thorough physical checkup in order to get a complete picture of his or her overall health. Routine wellness exams at our animal clinic include the following elements:
Your pet's general demeanor and physical condition can provide clues to their overall health. How they stand and walk, their level of alertness, and whether they are a healthy weight for their size are all important indicators of overall health.
Coat & Skin
During your pet's wellness checkup, we will examine your dog or cat's skin and coat for signs of problems, including excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, bumps, dandruff, or abnormal hair loss or shedding.
Face & Head
Your cat or dog's eyes, ears, and nose will be examined for abnormalities or discharge. We will also check the mouth for symptoms of oral health problems such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease.
Nutritional Counselling & Weight Management
Your vet will discuss whether or not your pet is an appropriate weight and size for their age and breed. They will also offer nutritional counseling which includes discussing the type and amount of food your pet is getting and what types of treats are safe and healthy for your pet to consume.
Review of Findings
At the end of your pet's routine wellness exam, your vet will take the time to discuss any concerns they may have about your cat or dog's overall health.
Checkups for Puppies & Kittens
It is vital that your new puppy or kitten receive the proper medical attention in the first few months of its life.
Puppy and kitten care consists of a complete physical examination, appropriate vaccinations, and parasite prevention measures. Your new friend will also be tested and treated for any existing intestinal parasites.
We will provide you with a new puppy or kitten 'kit' which is filled with educational materials to help you care for your newest family member and a schedule for when to return for your puppy or kitten's booster shots.
With recent advances in veterinary medical knowledge and care, as well as newer therapies and better nutrition, senior cats and dogs are living longer than ever.
While this is terrific news for pets and their owners, it means that special attention needs to be given to your pet's routine healthcare as they age.
Other Services Offered
During your pet's wellness exam, you can also elect for our Grass Valley vets to perform basic grooming tasks that help keep your pet clean and healthy. We offer nail trimming, basic grooming (lion cuts only), and anal gland expression if necessary.
Vaccinations & Prevention
During your cat or dog's wellness exam, our Grass Valley vets will also let you know if your furry friend is due for any vaccinations or preventive care measures.
